The Roots Lounge Open Mic & Poetry Slam | Toronto Photographer

I attended my 2nd spoken word event this weekend. Another event put on by Dwayne Morgan and Up From the Roots. This was hosted at Harlem on Richmond, a quick walk just east of Yonge and Queen. Loved the atmosphere of Harlem and look forward to going back for the dinner & live music they offer on weekends. The image below was the only one I was able to capture. Why? Because we did not arrive early enough to get seats and the lounge was jammed pack with attendees – which was nice to see. It was a great evening of spoken word and poetry both by newer & more seasoned poets. I love how much love and support the audience gave to all the performers – it really was a great atmosphere with a lovely mix of people and great music by Dj Manifest. I was so inspired by the end of the night that I was imagining myself getting up on stage and performing my own piece. I’m not poet though, but, it has got me thinking more and more what it is I have to say…
