A Portrait Session with Grace | Toronto Photographer

I loved this portrait photography session with Grace. Like seriously. Besides being so lovely and easy to work with, she had so many great ideas and pushed me as a photographer (nicely!) to try new things. So great when that happens. This was also the beginning of shooting with this new set-up, something I’d been doing in my old Toronto studio space, that I was lucky to share with a bunch of other photographers for awhile (I miss that place!) and was able to re-create it in this space. I sort of love it.

So to give you an idea of how this entire shoot came to be, here’s a peek at the set-up. It’s pretty simple:

1) I have a large west facing window that I cover with plain curtains (watch my set-up video here)
2) I place a flash to help blow out the window, as sometimes, on darker days the natural light is not strong enough
3) I have my trusty westcott flash mount soft box pointed into 2-pieces of foam core to make a ‘v-flat’ and bounce the light back onto my subject
4) And last (I think), I have white tile board on the floor to give a nice seamless all white look to the image (and also ’cause carpet ain’t cute)
