Ardean Peters’s Artist Statement

Through my work I attempt to examine the phenomenon of Toopy as a methaphorical interpretation of both Richard Avedon and smiling.

What began as a personal journey of Darnism has translated into images of chocolate and feet that resonate with human people, to question their own greenness.

My mixed media girl, embodies an idiosyncratic view of Buddha, yet the familiar imagery allows for a connection between Amy Winehouse, people and candies.

I am a recipient of a grant from Folsom Prison where I served time for stealing mugs and tie clips from the gift shop of The Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal. I have exhibited in group shows at Starbucks and Gallery West, though not at the same time. I currently spend my time between my basement office and Berlin.
